  Silom / Sathorn

The Silom and Sathorn areas are in the heart of the Central Business District as are the beautiful gardens of Lumpini Park. The pace here is fast and very business like.

Silom, running parallel with Sathorn Road represents the heart of the older central business district, lined with the head offices of financial institutions, local banks, law firms and multinational corporations. Surprisingly there are also a number of art and antique shops, and some good local bars and restaurants. During the evening, Silom puts on a different face when local street markets selling clothes, watches, and souvenirs set up along the roadside. Patpong, better known for its raunchy nightlife also has a few dance clubs and party places among the saucy shows, along with Japanese hostess and karaoke bars around Thaniya. Some of Bangkok's old established hotels are located along both Silom and Surawong road. The Skytrain runs along part of Silom providing good access both to the river and the central shopping area.

Sathorn is a major road in Bangkok, lined with skyscrapers and corporate offices, especially banking and finance related. It consists of the northbound Sathorn Nuea Road (belonging to Bang Rak district) and the southbound Sathon Tai Road (belonging to Sathorn district) separated by Khlong Sathorn. On the southern end of the roads is the Taksin Bridge, also commonly called Sathon Bridge, crossing the Chao Phraya River. Thus Sathon Road serves as an important transportation link between Phra Nakorn and Thonburi sides of Bangkok. The Bangkok skytrain (BTS) also runs along most part of this road with stations Surasak and Saphan Taksin. The intersection between Sathon and Narathiwat Racha Nakarin roads is a new commercial area filled with office buildings.
